Got questions?

How much should I spend on my team’s retreat?

Most retreats cost between $1.5-$5k per person which can vary based on employee locations, length of stay, and company preferences.

Book 15 minutes with us here to get a free quote and suggested destinations for your company retreat - we’ll help set an agenda, find a location, and pick amenities like live or remote facilitation that fit your team’s budget.

Where should my team go on our retreat?

We can help factor in your team’s home locations, venue needs, and special considerations to pick the right city for your retreat. Our team has lived, worked, played, and collaborated in the world’s most inspiring cities and wilderness locales.

If your team is looking to connect with a group of customers for a design sprint, we might recommend a North Brooklyn retreat - you’ll want to be as close to the pulse of American creativity as possible, and there’s nowhere like New York for that. If you’re looking to connect as a team and disconnect from Slack, we might suggest the Kona Coast on Hawaii’s Big Island.

If you already know where you’re headed, we’ll still make sure the details are all taken care of.

How should I plan what we’ll do on our retreat?

We’ve got you covered. Agenda planning and effective facilitation is the hardest part of retreat planning, the most important thing to get right, and the part most teams have the least bandwidth to tackle. Bring us on board with either of our two more involved packages, and we’ll provide powerful facilitation guides written by leading people ops specialists and organizational psychology experts, or create custom agendas and facilitation materials tailored to help you get exactly where you want to go.

If you’re looking to achieve high-stakes, pivotal change with your team or company, we’ll even arrange for in-person professional facilitation by high-impact facilitators trusted by Silicon Valley and Wall Street’s highest-profile leaders.

When we talk about handling everything, this is what we mean. There’s nothing more frustrating than spending the money and going to the trouble of wrangling an in-person retreat, only to not be able to take full advantage of your time together because there wasn’t bandwidth to research and implement facilitation best practices. We’ll make sure that never happens.

Can we weave in personal or family time pre/post retreat?

Absolutely. If any or all of your team members want to tack on some family team before or after your team retreat, we can facilitate travel planning, booking, and recommendations.

When do I need to start planning?

We recommend reaching out to us no later than 6 weeks before your intended date. If you have a bigger team (10+) you should consider starting the planning process about 5 months prior to your intended date. The best lodging, activities, and workspaces are easiest to lock in well in advance.

How long should our retreat last?

Depends! Just trying to bond with your team? A long weekend might be enough - land on Friday morning, be home in time for work Monday morning. Shorter retreats for team bonding can make it easier for team members with families to plan around their own needs.

For a longer, more in-depth retreat - think a product brainstorm, design sprint, or an intensive sales workshop - we’d recommend 5 nights for most teams, or longer in some cases.

We have weird travel needs. Can you help?

We’re experts at the unglamorous guts of travel booking. Optimizing for specific frequent flyer programs? Easy. Maximizing points for booking? No problem. Unique ground transportation needs? Covered.

How does Akoakoa make money?

Simple - we charge a flat fee per team member ($99, $199, or $499) depending on which of three packages you’ve engaged us for. We can be as involved or hands-off as you’d like, because no retreat is one-size-fits-all. If your team has more than 25 people, please contact us for a custom quote.

We believe a flat fee is the best way to line up our incentives (as opposed to a percentage of total cost). We want to get you the best deals, and most of our customers end up saving on the total cost of their retreat by using Akoakoa.
